e-brake light flashing- do I need to clear codes
Hello everyone!
New member to the forum. I've owned some sort of Mazda since 2008 (3) and currently have a 2014 6, and 2016 CX-9. This question is about my wife's CX-9. Feel free to laugh at me...
I recently did a second rear brake job. I knew about the procedure on releasing the e-brake but for some reason it was giving me problems this time not pulling back completely (I could hear the motors run). I eventually got the passenger side installed and turned my attention to the driver's side which was giving me the same problem. For SOME REASON (go ahead and laugh) I went through the procedure of releasing the e-brake but this time the caliper was off the car, and I went through the process of engaging first, then releasing. Well, when i engaged the e-brake the piston basically came out of the caliper (almost, but enough to cause a headache).
I eventually removed the piston, twisted the screw back down (after removing the motor so no damage) and bled the brakes. Both were working fine at the time. That is, until I drove it the next day and got all sorts of lights flashing. I figured out that the driver's side e-brake would engage ONLY when the car is off. But when it's running only the passenger side would engage.
I took the car to the dealer and they offered me a great deal of $2100 to replace everything (calipers, computer control module, e-brake motors).
I've been reading on some cars after bleeding the brakes the codes need to be cleared. Could this be a problem with the CX-9? I hooked up my basic ODBII reader and didn't find anything, but I know it's only a basic reader.
Thanks in advance!
