CX-9 Rust on roof
Hello, I am experiencing rust on my 2016 white CX9-Signature. Since the car is white, its awful to look at. I know of 3 other mazda owner whom this has happenned with CX5 , did this happento anyone with a similar year mazda cx9 ? I did contact Mazda, no one could answer the question as to why it happens on the roof and not on the hood ? makes not sense to me.
I specifically asked this to Mazda Canada and I have emails from them, they assured me that the hood and roof are the same metal.
CX-9 Rust on roof
Questions:
1. Have you owned this vehicle since new?
2. How long has this been an issue, with this car?
3. Do you have acid rain in your region, which can prematurely age and damage the paint clear coat?
4. Have you ever used clay bar to properly remove all debris on the paint surfaces? Has the car's paint ever been properly polished, following clay bar?
5. Do you occasionally use clay bar (such as one every year or two) on the paint surfaces?
6. How frequently do you wash the vehicle? And, how do you wash it? (By hand, by touchless sprayer, or with some other method.)
We have a 2016 CX-9 Machine Gray Signature, also with rust problems on the roof. We had the whole roof repainted recently for $1,000. Mazda claimed there was no problem of which they were aware, but now I'm suspicious. Prior to the repaint, there were several dozen round spots varying in size from 1/16" to 3/4" diameter where it appeared the primer had failed and the metal actually began corroding, with evidence of rust around the outside of the holes. I didn't catch it when we bought the vehicle in 2021 because the roof is well above my eye line and I just didn't think to check it. My hope is that the repaint (the roof was completely sanded, primed, painted and clearcoated) solved the problem and that this isn't an issue due to the metal itself.
