My Mazda CX-9 2017 (2.5L Turbo) recently faced a major issue when I noticed coolant leaking, and shortly after, the engine completely died. Unfortunately, my warranty had expired just 6 months ago, and now I'm stuck with the heavy cost of engine replacement. The 2.5L Turbo engines for 2017 models are quite expensive, so I’m wondering if it’s possible to swap in an engine from a 2018 or 2019 CX-9 model instead. Has anyone gone through this process or have insights on compatibility and cost savings?

I'm very sorry you're going through this issue. Even though your SUV is out of warranty, has Mazda's dealership offered any assistance given that there’s a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on this fault? This is a manufacturing defect from Mazda, so they should consider helping you even without an active warranty. How many miles are on your CX-9?

not really….Better read your warranty for your Mazda because it is clear you may not understand how it works?
As for the TSB which are you referring? There are hundreds? Maybe exclude the exact one next time when referencing one.
And does it state a manufacturer defect? Maybe read it again slowly and read everything on each page beginning to end.
First dealership is an independently owned business. As such and adjustments would first come out of thier operate expenses and then they would need to go to Mazda corp for any reimbursement.
A TSB is not a reacall nor a safety recall . I suggest like I often say read what is at the bottom of each page of a TSB .
And even if they did the owner would need an almost perfect service history on the VIN.
If it were a recall then that would be different.
So maybe when giving advise get all your facts first …. Or talk to an attorney.
Are you a Mazda Technician or any sort of Automotive Technica?
If not then again we have another TSB posted that was not read clearly and completely!
Some of you must think that dealerships ignore these? You realize that when you take your Mazda to a dealership and the VIN is entered in the system all related TSB are shown?

What? Now you have to be a mechanic or work for Mazda to post something in the forum? Many Mazda dealerships do little to address issues. But if you keep up with regular servicing at the dealership and run into a problem that turns out to be a known issue recognized by Mazda—even documented in a TSB—you can go and ask them to check it out to see if the TSB applies. Mazda has already acknowledged that this is a manufacturing defect.

No I never said that but you should at least read a complete TSB and understand what it is and who it is meant for? I see you missed the part on each page of a TSB that clearly states who those TSB are specifically meant for. While the public can access them you may not be qualified to understand them completely and like the one you posted there is information that you can only access at a Mazda dealership about some aspect of the replacement parts.
The other thing and I ask you directly have you had that TSB issue with your Mazda? If not then you posting it really does what?
I am qualified to use and have used TSB yet I have NEVER posted a TSB myself.
Oh at one time I have even authored a few before the qualification from Mazda changed stating that only a Mazda employed service Auto Technician or mechanic could write a TSB. While I am contracted with Mazda and few other auto manufactures to perform many aspects of WARRTY work with few exceptions that being safety recalls or Emission related TSB in the state of California.
On a personal note customer are a PIA when they come oin the shop with TSB or internet found information in hand and ***ume that is what is wrong with their vehcle. LOL more then 90%+ of the time they are mistaken.
I also said that if you go to a MAZDA dealership with a issue when they enter your VIN some information automatically pops up such as RECALLS and safety notices and TSB if VIN applicable.
If you personally have any issues with your Mazda that is still under WARRANTY you should go to a MAZDA dealer ASAP and get your issue addressed your MAZDA logged in with the concern so it will be an important part of your MAZDA service history. This is for your protection so in the future if you do have an issue and out of WARRANTY you may be able to work out a amicable settlement to resolve the problem.
posed this information that is on every page at the bottom of the TSB that you and other often don't read. Maybe because yu think it does not apply to you? IDK LOL
Oh and I also am allowed to post a TSB under law as are you lol

While the TSB is intended for Mazda mechanics or mechanics in general, it’s also helpful information for owners. This TSB, for example, specifies which vehicles are affected and lists the serial numbers that fall within the range of vehicles with the issue.
Personally, I haven’t had the issue with the leak, but it’s already well-known online; there’s a lot of discussion about it, and many people have been affected. Thankfully, it hasn’t happened to me, though my vehicle’s VIN does fall within the range of units that could have this issue. I shared the TSB information because the OP has the same problem described in the TSB, so there’s a high probability that it was caused by Mazda's design flaw.

There are many posts online, in forums and communities, with dozens of people who have had this issue, for example/
No it is not well known only repeated information from a few that join all the forums and post the same information. Please once again get your facts straight . Do you or anyone knows that actual effected numbers" NOPE
Now you are an Automotive ENGINEER??? exactly what evidence in the TSB has you posting that you think it is a design flaw? Because the effected and actual physical engines that were taken care of does not in any way suggest a design flaw? OMFG!
Before we go much further on this subject and qualification, you and I maybe you should post in this thread, so I don't misunderstand your posted information reasoning?
