Coolant leak, engine replacement
Each independent Dealership has some credit (so to say) that they can use for un-authorized warranty work) to get partial credit on. I am guessing your dealership is trying to do that and whatever is not going to be covered cost will be what your balance would be. It reads that at least your dealership is trying to help you. Remember dealerships are independently owned contracted authorized sellers of an auto manufacture and as such they operate like any other business when it comes to warranty of what is retailed sold from them.
The pother people that claimed to get it resolved unless you knew each one's details there is no way to know 100% that nothing was out of pocket. Also, I am pretty sure that the write up to do the work has nothing indicating MAZDA corp, and only the dealerships service information of the adjusted service work.
I have had contracted engine work from dealerships in my own shops that could not do the work in their own service department because the auto manufactures were crediting less than that dealership could at least break even helping their customer out. Very similar to what your issue is.

So an update. I was told my the service personnel handling my case that Mazda approved the goodwill replacement for my engine. I will only have to pay $500, and I don’t know what that includes yet. Anyhow, it has been two weeks that the engine was delivered and now they are supposedly working on my car. It is being taken apart and cleaned. I told them I want it done right and but if time is need it is ok as long as it is within reason but at the same time I wary what kind of other issues will prop up due to whole thing taken apart and put back together. Should I be concerned. I am also thinking of trading it in as an option. Once I get my car back what should I be checking and looking into make sure everything is working as intended.
HI
new member here,
I have the same problem with my 2017 cx9 gt, was wondering if anybody know instances where mazda acknowledge these issue. Im guessing once they acknowledge it, it will be easier for us to make them fix it.

You need to book your vehicle in with your local Mazda dealer, inform them of the problem and remind them there is a service bulletin related to/covering your issue. You most likely will be require to pay for the diagnosis. Your dealer will send your case to Mazda Australia for consideration for goodwill coverage.
Hi, I am also new member. I am having this same issue as well. I was surprised to see that this is also a problem for a lot of others. I have had nothing but issues with this car since purchased. I just took it in for the oil change and re inspection of the brakes. So to have a problem with the antifreeze right after being in the shop was a shock. First as part of the oil change fluids especially coolant is suppose to be checked. In less than two weeks the car had overheated. And now I am being told antifreeze is in engine and it will need to be replaced? Would there have been signs of this in the oil? I had local mechanic take a look at it before we sent it to the dealer. Here's what is strange though. riding rough at stops only. I actually replaced my spark plugs ran fine for a day then rough again. Took to local mechanic after it overheated. We did not drive it once it overheated. That mechanic said that the car was completely dead, said the starter was out. after that they got car running then they claim to find short on the battery terminal block(not sure if I am saying that correctly) Said I needed to take to dealer. So I toed to dealer. They called me, again your car is dead. Ugh now they claim its the battery, I was like the battery was fully charged before it left? Then they come back and say antifreeze leak on top of that you need an engine. I have too been waiting on the response from the warranty. They were shopping around for an engine for me for a week and had never even called me to tell me what was going on. That's when I said what about the warranty. Sounds like it is not worth the paper its printed on. Still waiting for their response. They have had my car since before Christmas. I will also ask for the goodwill repair. GMC did one for me and I didn't have to pay a dime. Sounds like it will be different with Madza.

Hi All -
Found this thread amongst others with this coolant leak issue. So disappointing to say the least. I own a 2016 with 110k miles. I can understand a few "bad apples" in the bunch in terms of our 2016+ CX-9s. Love this car and meticulously maintained it. My coolant leak was nothing visible, meaning no dried splash spots or liquid on the floor. First thing I noticed was rough idling intermittently and occasionally the engine would die (only at stops). Then a few days later, got a Engine Hot notification. Mind you, never got a check engine light. Pulled over right away and observed my coolant reservoir was completely empty. I happen to have 2 new bottles of FL22 coolant as I was literally going to do a coolant flush soon. I almost had to use the two bottles to fill it back up.
Out of concern, I took it to my buddy's car repair shop. He did a pressure test and stated there is no external leak, but I am losing pressure hence the coolant is leaking somewhere internally. I also noticed by exhaust has a funny smell and blows white especially on cold starts. His thought was maybe the turbo was cracked somewhere and the coolant was burning through the exhaust or crack in the head. From reading various post, even from other Mazda forums, it seems to be a cracked head.
I am thinking of giving the dealer a call tomorrow, to see what options I have. Sounds like a new motor is needed ugh. I am definitely out of warranty, but if there is a technical bulletin number out there please share. I will update with my progress as I get them. Hopefully my story can help others. When my mechanic friend said to search forums, I admit I was doubtful there would be known issue like this especially from Mazda and supposedly not sharing any Ford parts. Another option I pondered, depending on the cost to replace the engine, would be to sell the car to Carmax or similar online sellers and wait for the CX-90. TIA
