Burning/Sulfur Smell in Cabin

I have a 2011 CX-9 AWD with 8800 miles. This weekend I smelt a wicked burning/sulfur odor coming through the vents into the cabin. I checked this forum and saw a similar issue with a 2010 that was a bad AWD transfer case. My car is up at the dealership now and they said they can't find anything wrong and the sulfur odor bulletin was only for '08-'10. My obvious question was that if it happened in '08-'10 then it stands to reason it could be happening in '11. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas/suggestions. The odor is BAD. My garage still reaks of it.

Sulphur Smell 2011 CX9

Experience same foul smell - only 6k on my 2011 CX9 AWD. Initially, dealer suggested it was the grade of gasoline I was using. However, found several posts indicating that there was oil/fluid dripping in AWD transfer case. Dealer found problem right away when I suggested this is where they should look first.

Maybe try some different gas?

Auto Diagnosis - What's That Smell? - Popular Mechanics

Following from above links:
  1. The engine's coolant level may be too low: Refill cooling system with proper type of coolant for your engine.
  2. There is a problem with your electronic engine control system: Scan injection and emission control system for Diagnostic Trouble codes. Replace or repair as required.
  3. The ignition timing may be set wrong: Check and adjust ignition timing.
  4. Your fuel pressure regulator is bad: Replace the fuel pressure regulator.
Two other causes of rotten eggs besides a broken catalytic converter include an engine that is running too hot or a broken fuel pressure regulator.

Hummm.... I have a CX9 2012 with 15,000 and 9 months old. Rotten egg smell inside the car. The first day was more like pure gasoline inside the cabin. Dealer and Mazda are unresponsive in the sense they claim it is normal. Huh??????

The transfercase....aren't there a number of posting in other websites where the CX9 transfer case break into pieces at low mileage?

I am feeling I got a lemon out of a bag of lots of lemons that should be recalled!

In the US report to Vehicle Owners | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

They need a critical mass of reports to order a recall.

We have a 2011 CX-9 (BUT WITHOUT AWD) with about 40K and the smell has been getting worst over the last few weeks. Our cloths are now smelling from it. From the forums low coolant could be a cause and I will check it. Will call the dealership this week for appointment.
