AWD conversion

Hi this is my first post as I'm a new member. I'm kind of new to Mazda being a lifetime Honda owner I bought a used 2010 CX-9 AWD touring which I knew needed a new trans and transfer case due to the output shaft from the trans to PTU being stripped. I am a mechanic by profession for over 25 years but mainly Honda and GM vehicles. My question is I want to replace the trans with a FWD trans and eliminate the AWD components. I figure I will replace the right front axle and install the carrier axle and bracket since the PTU won't be there and I'll probably remove the rear driveshaft too. Another reason why I want to do this is cost AWD trans is 3000.00 for reman and 900 for PTU and the final reason is I can't seem to communicate with the AWD module with my scanner. So has anyone heard if this is possible or tried and succeeded doing it? I have done this for a few customer GM vehicles which had severe problems with rear differentials etc and have had no issues there. As far as I can tell the transmissions appear to be very similar between AWD and FWD.
Thanks for any help on this matter
