2016 CX-9 transmission failure
Hi team, my daughters 2016 CX-9 with 83000klm has developed a whiring/bearing noise and is jerking/shuddering between gear shifts, had it checked by a local transmission shop and reported that gearbox could require replacing and should get Mazda to take a look, just got word from local Mazda needs replacing at a cost of approx $10000. Has anyone dealt with Mazda and got any type of compensation, good will etc, on this issue. Cheers Mark QLD Australia.

I am curious what the transmission shop report actually said and how they determined a failed/failing transmission?
So Q&A
What type transmission? You did not say automatic or manual? You said gearbox but I know in your country some identifying auto parts are called differently than here in the USA? When we say Gearbox, it is a manual transmission
I did read that you mention between shifting gears, so if this is in fact a manual gear box then disregard the info about an automatic transmission.
If it is a manual transmission, then can't help you. I suggest start looking for a company that sells low mileage engines and transmission with a warranty as opposed to a rebuilt transmission and defiantly not a new one.
If it is an automatic transmission, then what was the last basic service done on it exactly. If you purchased it used, then this may be available to you at your Mazda dealership under the VIN?
After those questions I may be better able to think about a response.

Thanks for replying, Model is 2016 2.5ltr turbo automatic AWD. My reference to "gearbox" is the auto transmission, So it is shuddering between gear changes and there is a very distinct whirring sound, this appears to be the reason both auto mechanic and mazda advised internal bearing failure of the transmission and requires replacement. As per service history there does not appear to be a requirement to service transmission,( I'm well aware this should have been serviced/flushed etc well before 80000klm) I'm unable to find any evidence transmission has ever been serviced. Have found some evidence online that Mazda Australia has assisted with compensation and even full replacement out of warranty due to consumer protection laws here.
Compensation when you are out of warranty and no service record.... your basic information falls more into my first responses about the. Remember Its the internet and I would not believe all the informatio0n about compensation unless you know the complete story and the service sheet was posted.
I am surprised that the transmission shop did not want to do a pan drop inspection and filter change? There is also a fluid pressure tests that could have been done as well?
Well sorry that it seems like you are not getting the best service advise from those that physically can inspect things better than doing a best thought of solution on a forum on the internet? .
Reading your first response the information using the word "COULD" meaning they did not do a very complete assessment?????
