2012 Waterpump replacement

Hello all,

I haven't been on here for quite a while, the CX9 just keeps running and running :) I've got about 113,000 miles on it now, normal services, and recalls have been done. At this mileage I'm starting to think about some PM to avoid problems down the road.

The big thing I'm looking at is the water pump, I know the chains will last "forever" replace the tensioners, but I've heard horror stories about the pumps going out, I was reading on one of the forms about a lawsuit against Mazda because of the design of the engine and the way the pump is hidden, not sure if that's true or not.

Bottom line is I'm starting to look at quotes for replacement of the pump, it's beyond what I want to jump into, I called my local dealer and was told, don't worry about it, they will last forever, that sounds ridiculous to me but he said the labor to replace it was $2400.00 which is also nuts!!

Anyone have any input on water pump problems with their 3.7 V6?

Thanks for the input.

In my 14yrs at Mazda, I've never had to replace a water pump in a CX-9, I've only ever seen them replaced on two vehicle.

Workshop manual say's remove the engine from the vehicle to replace the water pump, which explains the $2400 quote.

I would not worry about it. Weekly or monthly inspection of under bonnet / hood fluid levels and inspection of the entire cooling system every service.

Keep running genuine Mazda FL22 coolant and replace it every 5yrs or 60,000 miles for piece of mind. ( workshop manual says 10yrs or 120,000 miles )

Thanks Grim_Reaper, I appreciate the comeback. I do all the fluid changes regularly. I'll run with it and see how it goes. It's sure been great so far.
