2007 CX-9 will not go into programming mode

I purchased a 2007 CX-9 which did not come with a key fob, I purchased a key fob through a locksmith, the key works great however he could not get the key programmed because the car would not go into program mode. After two trips to the Mazda Dealer, they think something is wrong with the Body Control Module, they want $1,100.00 for the repair. ???'s Can I purchase a module on-line and install it myself or will the module have to be programmed by a Dealer? I don't want to waste time and money if this is not a do-it yourself project, Im already out $450 so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

So, it had no keys at all when you bought it?

A used BCM will have to be programmed by the dealer. I doubt the car will start after installing the used BCM and i doubt the dealer will install a used BCM. That means a wrecker ride to the dealer most likely. I would think that there would be another symptom if the BCM is in need of replacement but i suppose it is in the realm of possibility that only that circuit is affected.

The car only came with a single key, no key fob. I also thought I would see other failures if the BCM was bad, but when I questioned the Dealer he said that it may just be key programmer that is bad. I think the Dealer is at a loss so there next solution is to install a new BCM. Thanks for the feedback. Is it possible that a mechanic other than the Dealer can program a used module? Like you said the Dealer wont install a used one, and they may have issues with programming a sued one, or blame me if that doesn't fix the problem. Any other thoughts?

Since it is only 1 wire coming out of the Central Control Module that controls the door locks i would look into an aftermarket application. You don't need an entire alarm system but i would think they could hook you up with a remote and a partial install to work your door locks.

That is an excellent idea. I will check around with the local mechanics to see if they can get me hooked up. I will keep you informed of the outcome. Thanks

After thinking on it. You could get something for all the money you have spent out of it and treat yourself to a remote start application which comes with a remote.

thanks Hixx, I hope to have time this week to discuss with some car stereo/alarm specialist.
