Default VVT/Chain replacement gone wrong?

I have a huge problem. I'm trying to replace my chain and VVT in my 08 CX-7. In order to put my timing plate in place, I have to rotate my crank off of top dead center. It also looks like my VVT is the wrong position compared to pictures of other VVTs. I really could use the advice of those of you experienced in the Mazda automotive arts.
First picture, VVT pic from a Mazda site instructing you how to do a VVT.
Second picture, My VVT location.
Third picture, My crank pulley position. The correct timing tooth for TDC is in the red ring.
What should I do?

As long as you use the Crankshaft locking pin & the Camshaft locking plate you can't go wrong. I wouldn't worry about the position of the VVT actuator prior to removal.
