P2229 - 2007 Mazda CX-7
 

Hey Gang:

My first post here, as my lady just bought a used '07 Mazda CX-7 in excellent condition with only 102K miles. Engine light came on, and Auto Zone ran test to find code P2229, Barometric Pressure Sensor HIGH. He had NO idea what that meant, nor do I? Can anyone elaborate on:
1. What this means?
2. Is it a Major or minor issue?
3. Probable cause?
4. Likely cost to repair? ( we're on Social Security )

ANY guidance at all would be appreciated. She's had bad luck with her last 2 cars, and was hoping for a winner here. THANK YOU!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but most likely you will need a new PCM/ECU. The barometric sensor is built into the PCM/ECU

You will need to hook up a scan tool that can read live data,
• Access the BARO PID using the scantool
• Inspect that the BARO PID is within the specification. - Ignition switch is ON at sea level: Approx. 101 kPa ( 14-15psi) & Approx. 4.0 V
If not in spec, replace PCM/ECU

Unfortunately, I'm far from a mechanic, so I guess I'll print this out and bring it with me to a shop? I spent the day researching your advice, but not really catching on. This looks like a small part that fits in your hand, and I'm mostly seeing around $200-$225 for the part? I live in Florida with high heat and definitely HIGH humidity. Could this be the issue also? I guess I'm asking "how important is this reading of Baro Sensor High". Is it possible it will adjust itself back into the correct specifications?

Not a seperate part. Its built into the inside of the PCM/ECU.

It will most likely be running in or near limp mode to protect the engine as it doesn't know the altitude & air pressure going thru to the turbo.
