2007 cx7 wont start...Error p1260

Hi there....

My mechanics pulled the engine to replace rear main seal and the turbo.

Now after all is said and done the car will not start, something funny going on with the keys. Have tried just about everything we can think of but the car wont even attempt to turn over and gives us an error code P1260....which is some kind of anti theft immobilizer.

We have tried 2 different key fobs...and used the actual cut key, as the smart card doesnt work either.

I googled as much as I could but came up blank....my mechanics are at a loss....and right now the only option in a tow to a mazda dealer 30 miles away and have them go at it with their computer diagnostic interface (it seems only they can reprogram keys if none are working)

Anybody have any experience with this? It would be a shame for me to spend a few hundred for a flat deck just for mazda to wave a magic wand

Thanks

You need a scan tool that can communicate with, & read codes from the Instrument cluster. The immobilizer system is run thru the cluster.

There should be codes like B1681, B1213, B2139 etc etc.

P1260 is just a general code from the PCM to say there is a problem with the immobilizer system.

Also, P1260 can indicate a potential PCM malfunction. Double check the PCM connections.

Can also try this, battery disconnected, turn key on. connect battery, turn key off and remove from ignition. Try starting it after that. Has worked for me in the past.

Thanks for the response...i'll definitely pass that info on

The mechanics are using a tablet like snap on reader tool.....would that read error codes from the instrument cluster as well

I think similar to this

Just a second thought I had, do you have a aftermarket remote start on this vehicle? If so, the battery disconnect key trick may work.
