My New CX-50
Well, on Monday, November 28, 2022 I leased a new, 2023 CX-50 Preferred Plus, replacing my leased 2020 CX-5 Touring FWD. This is my fourth Mazda. My first was the 2016 Mazda3 Hatchback Touring 2.0 (as in my username), the second was a 2018 CX-5 Touring AWD, the third was the 2020 CX-5 that I just returned. As of today I have 462 miles on the odometer (delivered with 85 miles).
So far I am very pleased with the car. I have plenty of head room, even with the panoramic sunroof. There are some differences with the layout of the climate controls, but nothing too serious. One surprise is that there is no internal release for the gas cap door, only pressing it in and the it pops open. I do like that it locks along with the doors. Something that I haven't seen mentions is how the three big vents on the dashboard look like the front (real) and rear (fake) vents on the outside. Interior space is great. There is more rear seat leg room in the CX-50, and the cargo area is definitely longer. I don't mind having the 60/40 seats versus the 40/20/40 of the CX-5.
Driving I find it rides like the CX-5. I don't feel any noticeable difference in the ride between the independent suspension of the CX-5 and the torsion beam of the CX-50. Engine performance is the same (it's the same engine after all). Handling is great. I think there is slightly less body lean in the CX-50 over the CX-5 because it's slightly lower and wider.
Oh, and the color is once again Soul Red Crystal Metallic (all three others were this color).

Not doing too bad with my new CX-50 select
Some minor QA concerns, though. The USB ports were disconnected when delivered, but Foothills Mazda in Spokane took care of that. I suspect this is because the car has the "convenience" package, which includes a wireless phone charger. I bet they failed to reconnect the ports when they added that.
Aside from that, I get some odd electronic noises. From time to time. A constant whine that is only noticeable when the car is in accessory mode (engine not running) and an odd noise if I put it into drive after being in stop and go traffic. I am uncertain if the SD card slot is disconnected like the USB were or if its my off brand NAV card. (the dealer says this is interesting, and I'm taking it in next week)
Overall, it's been good, having done some long-distance driving in the winter without complaint. My advice is to get the preferred or higher trim, as the select is a bit too "base model" for me. They really cut to the bone, and I would at least have liked the sunglasses' compartment.
