You and a couple other keep thinking it all about the center vent.... ??? Ok owners often don't know how things are designed but please don't say a bad design without first knowing and understanding how the Defrost and ventilation system completely works. LOL
And really people should not show wisdom (or lack of) by comparing a Mazda to other platforms. Last time I looked auto manufacture don't really share engineering designs with each other ? LOL
What? Are you serious?

The center vent is where the hot air comes out and washes over the windshield to defrost it. In a cold climate when we say defrost we are talking about melting frozen moisture on the outside of the windshield.

If there is another way this happens, other than hot air blowing out of the vent, what is it?

Please explain this to those of us who lack your understanding

So you realize you just supported my point that some don't understand simple things like a the defrost system in MODERN vehicles like the newer MAZDA's. LOL
It is also not my understanding btw but my training and education in the automotive industry. You are new so I will let that comment slide for now. LOL
As I said it is a DEFROST SYSTEM.... this is done by drying and warming the air around glass and the interior environment with the proper air intake. So, you see those little side vents that are aimed at the glass they help with this total process.
If you want to see how well the system works, go and block them up and see what happens to your fogged up glass? LOL

so are you saying that the side vents pointed at the side windows are defrosting the front window somehow?

basically I’m looking for constructive advice about something I can do differently that will help this car more efficiently defrost the front windshield.

if you don’t have any advice about that anything else is just a waste of my time (and yours)

Also the glass is not fogged, that’s not the issue! It’s frozen moisture on the exterior

OMG you are slow aren't you!!!!!!!!!!

Some us suggested what to do this is the exact information you are going to get on any MAZDA forum ( Participate on most all of them) as well any other platform that someone like you cant understand how a defrost system works.

Good luck with your resolve or your next none Mazda with the same issues. LOL
Next forum you join you might read the new member info in advance ?

I’ve done all those things and had no luck, which is why I tried a forum.

Luckily the other folks except who replied here were trying to be helpful, not on some sad little troll ego trip aiming to insult folks rather than help solve problems

I often get this form members mostly new and like you whom argue the answers that are meant to the help them . Remember it is you whom highjacked this thread and choose to challenge information at least sarcastically if not negatively and as new member! I have no ego trip nor ego to be bruised. If you don't like empirical information and rather DIY or armchair theorist, you come to the wrong thread that you hijacked! There is nothing that is not incorrect or inaccurate if not empirical in nature with my responses.
I would love to know what a dealership service department or Mazda USA would respond to you about this none issue with your Mazda you are having if you contact them or did contact them?
Try typing in a simple : how does the defrost system work in a car, and learn from that. Maybe you will at least try to grasp the concept of a defrost system a little better. As for a resolve again I read where several recommendation were posted. You just don't like any of them. yet they are and will be the same on other forums.

I actually like the advice on this forum and others quite a bit, and followed some of it, and used it to double check my approach.

When people make practical suggestions about how to address a problem it’s quite nice.

I am not a mechanic and am simply trying to get the defroster on my vehicle to work.

If you have any specific suggestions, or even a single suggestion related to things I’m missing or that I can point the dealer toward next Tuesday it would be greatly appreciated.

You are clearing the ice from the windshield with a scraper when you start it up, aren't you and we're talking about ice building up as you drive?

If not, that's your problem.

Yes, clearing all snow away, letting it run with heat/defroster on until it is up to temp and clear of ice/frost.
