Your video clearly shows a big difference in just the last two settings.
If you or anyone ever needs or desires a higher CFM blower motor for their Mazda or anything else for that matter this is the brand, I use and tested comparing several others that I wrote in a previous response. While the other brands some of which are still high quality, I will not mention by name because of that, and I have sold and carried a few of them in my shops in the past with good results. In other words, I can t remember warranting any of them. LOL.

Default Yes, it is awful

I have a 2023 CX-5 and live in Vermont.

The defroster for the front wind shield is truly awful.

So bad that we are going to need to trade it in as it is unsafe to drive when it's snowing and 26 degrees F while going 35 MPH.

We have owned Fords, Subaru's, Toyotas and never had an issue like this.

When it's snowing with the Def on full blast, AC on, high heat, rear def on, there is ice on th windshield, including a sheet of ice at the edges and a trough of ice where the wipers rest.

This is about ice forming on the outside surface of the windshield not frost on the inside.

I ran it for 10 minutes this morning and then checked the windshield temp with an IR thermometer...15 degrees outside temp. Center was 50 ish, sides 30 ish, lower area just above wipers 27 ish. Rear windshield 60 ish. So when sitting still running full blast the lower area is still an ice forming trough which is maybe the big problem.

Taking to the dealer next week, hopefully they find something wrong.

Any advice that might help would be much appreciated.

Why are you running the AC?
Running the AC will not clear ice on the outside of your windshield.
If I run the front defrost on my 2020 Cx-5 it will clear any ice on the outside of the windshield.
I live in Maine, and it gets as cold here as it does in Vermont.

I think you misunderstood, let me clarify.

In the owners manual they suggest you turn on front and rear defrost buttons, be sure blower is high, temp is max and the AC button is activated. I assume this is to dehumidify the air.

I have tried everything at full heat/blast with AC button both activated and de-activated.

I have lived in VT for decades and had many cars, but never this type of issue. (not since my 1970 VW beetle).

I am following the instructions in the manual exactly but it's not working well.

Hopefully it's a Tstat or radiator issue.

Or maybe something changed from 2020 to 2023.

This issue has shown up in multiple places online, but most people like you say it's fine on theirs.

Seems an issue that pops up every once in awhile, but is not too common.

You need A/C on to defog the inside glass. Try running the defrost without the A/C on when you have really fogged up windows and see what I mean.

In any event, glad I live in Georgia. No issues with my defog/defrost.

As well the engine "COOLANT" must at least be to basic minimum operating temperature which is when the coolant light is off.

The AC will do nothing to the outside of the windshield except possibly add to the ice buildup.
Leave it off and run the defrost after the vehicle has warmed up.

You're correct on the inside glass but he's talking about the outside glass not the inside.
Running the AC instead of just the defrost has the potential to add to outside icing.
I glad I live in Maine I never need to run the AC.

I read and didn't catch that lol....
I wish I had noticed earlier. There is no auto manufacture for conventional production DD that have offered anything to de-ice the exterior glass yet. It happen to many models and platforms and it is NOT a design flaw having to do with Mazda.
AAA has a lot of fairly good laymen help about common iced windshields. Note that they do not claim Mazda as the leader in iced windshields. lol
