Where is the best city/area to buy a new CX5?

The Mazda dealer in our city wants $34,000 for a new 2016 CX5 Grand Touring with tech and isn't open to much budging on price.

Since I travel a lot for work, I'm open to buying in another part of the country.

My questions are: Is that price high? What did you pay for your new CX5 GT with tech? And, if you don't mind saying, where did you buy it?

Thank you very much!

O'Daniel Mazda in Ft. Wayne, IN was rated best dealership in Indiana. They worked really well with me to get me into a new 2016 CX-5 GT w/tech package. They are limited on how much they can budge on the price, but I got mine at like $100 over invoice which I was happy with. Heinrich Hilger was my go-to guy and I would highly recommend him.

Thank you kicker. I will definitely check our Mr. Hilger. Do you mind saying what you paid?

I got the 2016 CX-5 GT AWD w/tech package (not i-active sense). It also had the roof side rails added. I believe the total was $31,700. And that included a 10-year warranty that covered everything including electronics.

Here in the Houston area, you can get a CX-5 for UNDER invoice. When I used truecar.com, I was offered $28611 on a meteor gray 2016 GT FWD with Tech and i-activesense pkgs. Invoice on that combo was $30970. However, that was with standard Mazda financing at 4.9%. I negotiated w/ dealer, and bought the CX-5 for $30111 (+$1500) and got 0% for 36 months. Other offers on truecar came in all under invoice.

I didn't try to buy the car under invoice - took my loyalty cash as a discount, ended up being a total of about $900 off the car. They had what we wanted in stock ready to go, got a good lease rate, we're happy. Third car from this dealer.

I don't try to weasel every dollar - as long as it's a reasonable deal we're good. IMO the dealer should get at least a five or seven hundred over invoice on a brand new model. Some will think they should buy at or below invoice. Unfortunately there's not a lot of profit in the '5 - not nearly what there is on a '9.

When you purchase out of state you may be responsible for taxes when you go to register the vehicle.

Also search Cars.com or CarsDirect.com

You pay sales tax and registration applicable to your residence, regardless of where you buy it.

We used to have to worry about 50-state legal cars for emissions, but that seems to be resolved with ALL cars meeting CA EPA regs. Before that you couldn't buy out of state and bring into CA 'till it had 7500 miles on it, or only if you were moving and transferring, not purchasing.

There has to be a HUGE savings to warrant traveling to purchase a commonly available model like a Mazda. Your local dealer should be more than willing to make a satisfactory deal for you. If you're unsure, use a buying service, like AAA, Costco, or your credit union. You can be assured of getting a fair deal.

Just tell the finance guy "NO" on everything else. :D

I decided against the GT because I didn't want leather seats or a sunroof. The cloth seats are SO much nicer on my thighs here in south Florida. I paid around $25G for my new '16 almost 2 years ago.
