Very weird popping noise from driver seat back 2018 cx5 gt
Hey there new to the forum. I have a 2018 cx-5 GT
Just wondering if anyone has had this issue. About 3 weeks ago when I got into my car I head this popping noise from what sounded like the seatbelt buckle area. Didn’t think much of it. Then I would hear a pop noise when I would lift my back off the seat back. I then could make it happen pressing into the seat it would make a clicking popping type noise from what sounded like the right bolster of the seat back. I could feel it also. The noise would get worse or less depending on how much the lumbar was extended. If it was all the way out it would be noticeable. About half it would be very loud, and all the way deflated let’s say (I know it’s mechanical). The left bolster would have a ticking noise. I can adjust my lumbar so it’s not that noticeable but it always makes a popong noise when you get in the car and get out unless you really try to make it happen. You can also grab the side bolster and make it make the noise. I did unzip the back of the seat and moved the bolster and I couldn’t really see anywhere that would cause it seems like it’s catching on something. I’ll try to post a video to hear it. I have a appointment next week to get it looked at also. Video link |

Leather seats or cloth set?

Leather seats |
May not fix your problem, but i've seen similar issues on the old shape CX-5, get some leather cleaner & clean in the groove between the side panels/bolsters & back panel.

Trying to figure where exactly you mean? I did unzip the rear panel to see if I could see anything and it seems like it’s catching on something inside can’t really see. Also if I lift up on the bolsters it doesn’t make the noise. So will see what they find. How loud it is changes with the lumbar adjustment. |
You have the two outer cushions/bolsters and the main upright back panel that you lean against. Clean the seam between the leather panels.

I learned real quick that Mazda's interiors are often loud and creaky and yours seem to be no different. I own a 2016 CX-5 GT that has been plagued by interior issues, much like yours but worse. You can try cleaning in between the seats like someone else mentioned, but I feel with a year old car you really shouldn't have to do anything. Just take it to the dealer and have them look at it. For me, they added foam under my seats, under my center console, doors, you name it. The car has been super quit ever since. A lot of this does depend on your dealer though. I just don't think you should have to do anything on a 1 year old car yourself.
Good Luck! |
Ya thought maybe thought something easy for the most part. They will be looking at it Tuesday. The car is only 3 moths old with 1500 km. See what they find, getting the motor mount replaced as well as check as to why it felt like it had no power on one of my drives yesterday. Ya I’m lucky my dealer is awesome. Thanks everyone ! |
Fixed, was apparently a adjustment rod of some sort for the lumbar rubbing or catching inside the seat. Lubed up both sides and the noise is now gone. |
