Default Trade 17' rims/tires for 19" GT rims/tires. Chicago area

My wife has a 2017 Mazda CX5 touring model with the 17in wheels and tires. We are looking to upgrade to the 19 in rims and tires from the Grand Touring model. If somebody's looking for a softer , more comfortable ride, then these rims and tires would be perfect for you. We're looking to get the 19-inch for a sportier ride and a better appearance . If someone is willing to do a trade in the Chicagoland area, please let me know. Thanks

FWIW, I have the 19" wheels and I find them both comfortable and sporty. Would highly recommend this upgrade. On the other hand, I do not know how the 17" tires will handle in slow (which might be an issue in Chicago during the Winter months), I assume better?

I wouldn't say they would do a better job at handling the winter snow any better since they are the same width tire. I think the biggest thing is just the comfortableness of the tire since it has a taller sidewall. I guess that might be a good thing with all the Chicago potholes! Lol

With potholes or bad roads, the 17's will be much better, not only giving a softer ride, but also providing more protection for the wheel. That's why Jeep Grand Cherokees with the Offroad Adventure Package comes with 18" wheels instead of 20".

Man if this post wasn't a few years old I'd totally be up for it. I just got a 2021 GT and I really wish it had 17s instead of 19s lol

Hey hey there, I just recently did this even swap with a guy back in October of 2020. He had a 2019 with the newer style rims like yours. The only thing that was bad about it was he lived in Arkansas and I had to drive just past Springfield Illinois to do the swap. I see that you are in Rockford and that would have been a much easier meet up

For sure!

I put an ad on craigslist tonight. Probably just going to attract a bunch of weirdos and scammers. Or someone with rusty old rims. I test drove both the touring model and the gt. I thought the smaller rims with bigger tires were a little more comfy of a ride but I liked all the tech goodies in the one I got. I figured you can always change out tires and rims.

Glad I saw this. Read your other thread when you were still planning to get (and later did get the GT w/ PP) a CX5, and asking about 17" and 19". I'm still in a similar predicament, as although 19" look good, I'm not sure how they'd fare with occasional potholes/rocky roads. Not much trading options here.

What was your experience in deciding to go now w/ 17's? (Of course except for snow, as we don't have snow in tropical Asia).
