Might be a hit or miss issue. We own a 2018 soul red and it is now almost 1.5 years. No issues at all with the paint.

Is it one of the revised generations with the horsepower increase and telescoping steering wheel?

In the US, I think the only difference between the 2017 CX-5 and the 2018 CX-5 is the new engine with cylinder-deactivation in the 2018 model getting better MPG. Horsepower stayed the same and torque increased only by 1.

Maybe there's some confusion. I'm taking about the MX5. The paint is soul red 'crystal' from late 2018 onwards rather then just soul red.

Cool so you have soul red crystal with no issues. It's good to hear - I haven't heard many like that.

Hi,
I also have A CX5 with the Soul Red Crystal Metallic paint. Mine has so many tiny chips in the paint. This issue is driving me crazy. I do very little highway driving and I do not tailgate, but the chips just keep coming. I love the color and work hard to keep it looking good but I doubt I will buy this color again. This is my first visit to the forum. |
After 6 months and 2K miles, my wife's soul red '19 GT has no chips or any other paint problems.
|
We had two chips before I had a clear bra installed. The color is too nice not to protect.

I just did a lease this week on a CX-5 Signature in Soul Red. I just could not resist the color despite the many true tales of woe with regard to the paint.
It's a beautiful car. We'll see how it goes. |
