rear cargo lighting

I have a 2019 CX-5 GS and want light in the rear cargo area. It is completely dark now. Any ideas on my options? Thanks in advance for the help.

There should be a light in the tailgate. Is it there in your model? Does it work? Is it bright enough?

Otherwise you can tap into the wiring for the boot light & run additional lights.

Thank you for your quick response. Feeling real dumb, somehow missed the light. Is the bulb a LED? It doesn't give off much light. Will replacing it with a LED give more. Are there any other solutions other than replacing the bulb? TIA

If there's one thing Mazda slipped up on in all their cars, its interior lighting, especially ambient lighting. I'd recommend installing LED's. I recently hooked up ambient lighting to the foot wells, center console and under the seats for the rear passengers to mine and it looks so cool. Now that you mention it, I should do same for the cargo area. There is a light on the trunk lid but that's useless when it's open isn't it? One can easily run the wire from that into the cargo area and place LED's in the cargo area or even fiber optics. Here's a link to my video:

Weird my 2018 GT gives off enough light to see in every corner of the cargo area .

A cheap fix. There are battery operated round style stick up lights. Last pair I picked up at ACE Hardware. Realize they are not hard wired. We use one in our linen closet and I had a friend use one in his SUV. However, as noted in the tailgate with LED may be a good fix. Good luck.

Hi guys anyone have any fixes for the lift gate luggage light? Mine I noticed doesn’t turn on or off with the switch. It works sometimes after a long ride other times if I open the trunk no light turns on. The switch can only be flat or pushed on one direction. I’ve tried them all. It worked yesterday so I canceled my technician appointment but now it’s back to not working.

Does anyone have a tip for removing the rear light assembly for replacement? I tried doing it today and could not get it to release. I used a flat head screwdriver in the slot near the switch and then pulled pretty hard, but it would not let go. It seemed pretty close to breaking the lens so I stopped.

I was able to get mine off with a very small rubber headed screwdriver so I did not damage it. It feels close to breaking when it releases. I’m taking it to the shop Tuesday to be fixed completely since it’s under. Warranty but I recommend trying to find one with a rubber tip if you can.
