Exactly how do the find the plugs do they actually hoist up every vehicle and carefully rotate and inspect each tire?? LOL
Here in California, it depends it depends on what is considered an unsafe tire? I know some places if it is in the tread towards the outer treads area, they won't do it spouting off with Govenor who thinks this is his country and he is actually the king CA law he enacted.? rolmao Sounds suspiciously like they are lining up for a new tire sale of which a portion of tax as well recycle fee (eve if you keep your old tires) goes to CA. .

Ha, actually they are supposed to hoist the vehicle up and carefully inspect each tire along with the undercarriage.
Vehicle inspection license here is lengthy process and those who don't do it correctly can lose their license and it can impact their ability to get insurance for their garage/shop.
It can also be a criminal offense and jail time.
2022 (2)MMVIM FINAL 01-31-22_0.pdf (maine.gov)
If my old geezer eyes can spot a plugged tire doing that then anyone can
We had more than 300 unlicensed tire stockpiles at one time here and after way too many fires and environmental contaminations, the tire dumps are monitored here.
But granted not ALL shops and inspection stations are the same.
Like every place else, if you offer enough money, you can buy an inspection sticker.
A look about every one in ten vehicles on the roads up here will show you why that is bad for the rest of us on the road.
Too many obviously unsafe vehicles driving around here and that's not even counting those behind the wheel
Distance between places here used to be measured in "beers" and I'm not joking.

It wasn't able to be plugged because I drove on it a bit to get off a highway exit (I know, I know). I think I'll just bite the bullet and replace the other two -- just to avoid any surprises in the future. I did drive a hundred or so miles with this current configuration so hopefully that won't be an issue. Thanks for the responses, everyone.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it. 100 miles on tires you weren't concerned about before the issue aren't going to cause a problem. At 10k I would think you had a lot of tread left. I know some tire shops will even give you credit for tires that have a good amount of life left as they will resell them as used tires to folks who just need a single tire.

LOL you always entertain me when I read your Reponses! lol
I want your crystal ball for fact finding information, you never seem to consider all the variables or all the pertinent information but do make entertaining assumptions and statements on a regular basis. LOL

The feeling is mutual Cali. You don't need a crystal ball to know it would take a lot of abuse to wear out a set of tires on a CX-5 in 10k miles. Is it possible? Certainly. Is it likely? Not at all. Are you suggesting there is a good chance he DID cause an issue by only changing two of his 10k mile tires and then driving 100 miles? What evidence do you have proving he did create an issue?

[QUOTE=trosemlb;210415]I recently picked up a nail in one of the back tires on my 2016 CX-5. I replaced the back two, thinking it was best to replace in pairs. Now I'm reading it's best to replace all four tires with AWD vehicles (and the manual states the same thing). It looks like this is best practice in order to avoid long term issues with the AWD system. Now I'm wondering if I should replace the other two as well. The others have around 10,000 miles on them.

Anyone have experience with this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
