Default Picked up a nail in one tire on my AWD CX-5. Replace all four tires?

I recently picked up a nail in one of the back tires on my 2016 CX-5. I replaced the back two, thinking it was best to replace in pairs. Now I'm reading it's best to replace all four tires with AWD vehicles (and the manual states the same thing). It looks like this is best practice in order to avoid long term issues with the AWD system. Now I'm wondering if I should replace the other two as well. The others have around 10,000 miles on them.

Anyone have experience with this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum

The best advice is to have your local Tire shop look at all of them.
There are so many factors to decide to answer your question and no absolute correct answer without several dozen picture and physically looking at them and other factors of your MAZDA..

I was wondering about that myself. I would think that if the same size ,brand ,model/tread pattern and overall circumference was the same within 10% it should be ok. I would think there wouldn't be much change in wear with only 10000 miles on them . If you do replace all 4 , check out the Pirelli Scorpion AS plus 3 . My friend just put a set on her 2022 Toyota Rav4 and it made a huge difference in handling, smoothness, and it is much quieter too.

A tire can have a tread pattern go bad in less then 500 miles.
Not sure where the 10% figure came from unless it is just a personal thought?
In the situation posed by the OP we would inspect more than just the tire to decide, repair or replace. A poor driver can totally blow the inside and outside tread making it more difficult to rotate without other problems that may come up. And then there is the psi dilemma and how people judge what to use and how to set the psi which can affect a wear pattern and also deciding on replacing tires in pairs or a single tire.

There are many more examples........

Out of curiosity, why didn't you just have it plugged or patched? It's around $25-30 for a plug at just about any gas station with a mechanic, or $50-60 for a patch at a tire shop.

Good point but the OP did not indicate where the nail punctured the tire?

i guess it depends on how much wear is tolerable according to mazda. circumference is the issue, AWD tires turning at the same speed and affecting the differential.

FYI: Not sure about other states, but while "plugging" a tire is legal in my home state, a plugged tire will not pass the annual required state inspection.

Interesting thought but the uneven wear of tread (outside diameter) on any given size tire size that all axles have the same tire size would have little effect on a differential even a full locker would not notice a few thousands possibly up to 1/4 inch of opposing axles outside diameter tires circumference of measurements and anything more would be in question to a serious suspension or brake problem. HA!

The tire lobby must have a lot of pull in Maine.
