Default Pesky oil leak

We own a 2021 CX5. After our first oil change, we noticed a small drop of oil on garage floor. We took it back to dealer, and they claimed the drain plug was okay and it was merely oil that was left from drawing the oil. They “cleaned” it up. No drip for a year until last oil change. Back to dealer. This time they said it was front engine cover. They replaced that gasket, it was fine for several weeks, but now the drip is back. Any ideas?

Could be anything.might be timing chain leak. It's sealed with rtv.
could be the valve cover or even head gasket.

get the car up on jack stands or better yet, take it to a local mechanic and let him hoist it up.

should be able to pinpoint the leak with a better view from underneath.

Lastly, just in case, look at the back of your engine. Get a mirror and look at the cylinder head while the engine is running.

If your Mazda is still under warranty, go to Mazda and have them find the leak. I would not recommend going to an independent service shop unless you live more then 100 miles for a Mazda Dealer. This is clearly a possible warranty issue and as it effects the running gear system, your Engine you need to have it noted on your VIN service information just to be prudent if something else happens because of a unchecked and resolved oil leak.

We get occasionally customers that get suggestion from individuals not happy with their dealer fro service work and want a second opinion. This is the same thing I tell them. Very few almost never do we do any service work that would be still covered under the Factory Warranty unless it was a purchased used vehicle. And then we document the service work in greater detail for the customer.
Oil leaks on any engine can come from any area and due to their operating environment may only show up in an area they accumulated and not necessary where the leak was generated. So it is only a complete guessing game and there are NO absolute answers. Your engine when it was assembled should not be leaking and not every area uses sealers or even gaskets.

Hey there! I was a Mazda certified technician at a dealership here in NY for a year and a half, and I was given a TON of jobs that sound like they relate to this issue. The 2018-2021 (i believe) CX5s were affected by an issue with the cylinder head casting having a weak area near an oil jacket in the rear of the head. This would often lead to hairline cracks in the casting itself, into the mating surface with the engine block, thus resulting in a *very* slow oil leak. If your CX5 is still covered under powertrain warranty, bring it down to a dealership and ask about the cylinder head issue. As of last year when I left the dealership scene, there was only a bulletin that applied to the issue as opposed to a full recall, but it was usually covered as long as the vehicle was still under warranty. Anyone in a Mazda dealership should be well aware of this issue, as it seemed to be rather prevalent. They should definitely be able to have a technician at least check for signs of an oil leak from the head. Hope this helps, best of luck!

It's mostly the ones prior to 2021 in this generation that have the issue. I think they fixed the issue after they have started to arise in the 2018-2020 models.

This seem to fit the description of my leak, it's in the back of the engine and very hard to see but I do see where the accumulation is even though it's just a few drop. Unfortunately for me is that the powertrain ran out as of 6/2023 even though my car only has 53k miles on it.
