Low fuel warning a bit late don’t ya think?

My wife drives our 2023 CX-5 90% of the time, but I usually get charged with gassing up. She’s used to letting me know when the low fuel warning comes on. In our other cars, thats between 50 and 70 miles, but the CX-5 is at about 10 miles left. That seems way too late, and sure best practice is to keep it above a quarter tank, or half, even, but if every other vehicle I’ve driven can do
it at 50 or 70, (even another Mazda model), why not the CX-5?

Welcome ot the forum

Well I cant state the obvious... don't run the fuel that low.
The warning is factory set and technically can't really easily be changed. But I can say that is the cautionary miles based on your average MPG and it may actually be slightly greater. But I would not test that it!
The biggest concern is when you run the fuel that low in the tank the fuel pump does not get cooled done and uses the fuel as its cooling source. It is still an electrical motor and subject to damage from running hot.

You should really never run a vehicle below 1/4 tank and as Cali said it will benefit your fuel pump and your fuel system.
I always fill up when I get to a 1/2 tank (except on long trips then I go to 1/4 tank).
With GPS and gas stations on nearly every corner now, unless you have ambulatory issues, it is not that difficult to stop and get gas.

I just got my 2023 two weeks ago and said the same thing to my wife. I was under 40 miles and the dash light did not come on. My Tundra the light comes on at 60. Not a big deal but I was kind of surprised there wasn't a bigger window.

If you are going to compare one auto manufacture and a mode to a MAZDA read all the specification and technical information. You may find out why some things are a bit different with a Mazda?
