diesel vaccum pump issue
Hello members,
I have a issue with my 2015 / CX-5 / 2.2 Diesel. My garage told me the vacuum pump needs soon to be replaced. i don't trust them too much, so i do a little research here. I have a yellow message saying "vehicle system inspection required" and the red triangle light stays on also. Now the weird part is I measured it with a vacuum meter, the value is between 0.5-0.9 bar without pushing the pedal & same with pushed pedal. Further i checked the vacuum hose for any damage, all is good. Also the valve in the vacuum hose seems to work and hold vacuum, because when I take of the part of the hose which is from the valve side towards to the brake booster side I hear the airflow from the vacuum.
Now, after taking off the hose on both ends & putting it back, the warning message and the red warning light stays off. Why? What can cause this failure?
I realized when driving after a quick, strong push/release on the break pedal the yellow warning message and the red light came on again. So, can this really be the result of a faulty vacuum pump or is the valve in the hose faulty?
Any help and suggestion is appreciated. Thanks

Vacuum pump is a common issue with January 2012 to January 2016 models.
MAZDA CX-5 (26/01/2012 – 21/01/2016) RECALL:
The vacuum pump may wear prematurely, meaning that in some applications where the brake pedal is pressed quickly whilst at low engine speed the servo assistance provided by the vacuum system is decreased. This could cause a momentary decrease in braking performance. Braking assistance available to the driver can be reduced.

Dear Lobstah,
thanks for your reply. I heard about that issue. I agree with your answer, when pressing fast the pedal the pump might dont generate enough vacuum and the warning light turns on. Funny thing is once I take off the vacuum hose from the brake booster side the warning messgae disapear. My concern is how can I make sure thats definately the vacuum pumps fault? I dont wanna spend around 250euros and then the issue still continue.

There are several websites that tell how to properly check if your pump is working correctly.
I'm not a diesel guy, so not a fan of picking one for you, just do a search and choose which one you're comfortable with.
Good luck.

Hello guys, it's time for an update on my issue and close this subject. After another check with the OBD II diagnostic tool from another garage I decided last September to order a new vacuum pump. To my surprise I can say now after 2000km driven with the new vacuum pump that the issue with the red triangle warning light turning on and stay on has been solved. After installing the pump the light didnt turn on anymore. Very nice to drive and have no lights on at the dashboard. Also the breaking is much smoother and softer now when pushing the pedal.
Also the breaks are responding much better than before. It seems to me also that the acceleration is better since the change. I wanted to share this news with you guys.
All the best and stay safe
