Cx5 towing

Hi, I have just bought a Cx5 2.2d 2019, reason for choice is I was told by Mazda that it will tow2100kg, I used to have a 2L diesel zafira 1700kg tow capacity which pulled my caravan fine, but possibly will upgrade my caravan in the future so wanted more pulling power. My caravan is 1595kg mtlpm. We went on our 1st journey, hit some temporary traffic lights on a slight hill, when I went to pull off, the Mazda struggled, the car shook and sounded very throaty as I put my foot down, has anyone had any issues with pulling off whilst towing with this vehicle? It has more torque and tow capacity than my zafira but doesn’t feel like it.

thanks in advance

Nick

According to Mazda the 2019 CX-5 diesel maximum towing is 3500lbs or 1588k.
Which means your caravan is too heavy for it to tow.

It’s not too heavy

That is results from a Google Search bar and you can use those figures if you want.
You listed your caravan at 1595K which is 3516 lbs.
That is 16lbs over tow limit and assuming you have no other weight in the caravan.

The below figures are from official websites of Mazda and professional testing, Motortrend/Car& Driver, websites.
2.2L I-4, 4.41 axle ratio, 168 hp, 290 lb/ft: 3,500 lbs 1587 kg with towing kit.
It drops down to 2000 lbs 907 kilos without the tow kit (braking ability).
