You know, I will be surprised if Mazda actually brings this to the US market. I went through this with Honda and a few others back in 2008-2009. It seems manufacturers like to test the waters by putting out info on a new Diesel model, but in the end the decide against it for some reason..

The diesel models kooks like it'll happen, According to several sources Mazda will bring the diesels in early 2013. We'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks! It looks like a $3,600 difference between the CX-5 AWD GSX Auto and the CX-5 AWD GSX Diesel Auto. Hmmm, that's a pretty steep price premium. I wonder if the US models will be priced the same way?

The price premium in UK is even higher for the 2.2 tt diesel.

But regarding pricing in US, that will be important to insure decent sales volume. In the US diesel fuel is not subsidized by government and diesel often sells for more than premium gasoline in states such as California.

That's very true. You bring up a very good point.

I just went on a short trip from 45 east of Pittsburgh,pa. to south of Akron,Ohio and the CX 5 averaged 36.1 MPG. out and back but the real surprise was 39.7 going out but heavy traffic and a rain strop coming back lowered it. Just maybe they have something going here,i just may forget the diesel.....jim

The US is expecting the higher-powered diesel engine in 2013, hopefully.

The diesel's extra 25-30% in fuel efficiency certainly offsets the often 10% extra cost of diesel fuel in US (over regular gasoline). The higher purchase price (estimated to be $3K) and higher maintenance costs will be a bigger factors in moderating sales volume in US market.

I don't think the diesel will come to the US. because of all the problems they are having with the oil level rising. I would bet anything that is a head problem around a injector seat.Only time will tell,so i'll limp along with my gas job with no problems. I average 29.8 around home and over 36 on a trip so gas here is 3.52 and Diesel is 4.10.......jim
