Default CX-5 as a Bike Hauler

Considering a 2014 CX-5 but need to fit my Trek 7.2 FX inside w/o taking the front wheel off. My measurements (at dealer today) seem to show it will fit with a few inches to spare. Can anyone confirm this - would hate to be a few inches off.... or have to squeeze it in, possibly damaging the gears/chain or "gumming up" the inside of the cargo area.

If not, I know the Mazda5 will do so easily.

Appreciate any inputs....

Wow...84 "looks" and no input! Guess that means no bike will fit....back to Subaru.

I haven't tried it with CX-5 personally. Certainly the CX-5 is not a minivan.

But out of habit, I always remove front wheel before transporting any road or moutain bike (the quick release makes front wheel removal/installation easy).

Appreciate the input. Yes, still like the Mazda5 as I know the bike will fit easily but like the sporty look of the CX-5, all things being equal. Yeah, realize I could pop the front wheel but trying to avoid that - bad experience in the past....."easy" was not the word I would use, but that's on me.

or just 84 people that haven't tried putting a Trek 7.2 FX bike in the back of their CX5 and just clicked on the thread to see if there was any good info in it. Or 84 people that don't own a CX5 yet and were curious to see what someone had to say about hauling bikes in one....

84 people is meaningless and out of date as of today, lol.

I use my CX-5 to haul my bike to the trails too and personally I'd recommend getting either the trailer hitch bike carrier or the roof rack system. I am sure I could fit my bike in without taking off the front wheel if I didn't have a baby seat in the back that I am too lazy to remove each weekend when I want to ride. But I am kind of a neat freak when it comes to my car and the dirt and gunk that comes off your bike after riding some singletrack does not like to come out of the interior of this car too easily....plus, if you scratch up the plastic on the inside...it isn't very forgiving either.

Easier said than down with my Altima! Even with front wheel off, a bitch to get in back seat.

Anyway, I saved $25K and had a hitch installed on my Altima, then bought a bike hitch rack...total cost $400 and works like a champ! Can't believe I waited that long to do.

No problem using a hitch rack, (if you want to haul the bike exposed to elements and potential theft and/or damage). Certainly a reasonably economical solution.
