I am okay with my overly-sensitive BSM since I know now understand it is looking for (i.e. wanting) more distance regarding vehicles behind. Seems like it wants minimum 5 vehicle lengths before it gives the A-OK. to merge back in. Used to it now.

I'd just like to add my name to the list of people who find my CX-5 (2018 Touring) blind-spot monitor to be wrongly adjusted. Others have referred to it as 'too sensitive,' referring to how far back another car is when the sensor starts to activate. I agree with that observation and problem; it's technically called a false positive. I'd call that problem 'annoying.'

But I also have done repeated tests on the forward extent of the range where the sensor is active. I find that it does not extend far enough forward. This means that when an advancing car is nearly parallel to me but not quite nose-to-nose, the sensor has gone off. This problem I'd describe as 'unsafe' because it is a false negative. When it's nighttime or in other reduced visibility, and when your car is full and there's someone in the passenger seat, this is exactly what I want the sensor for.
Thanks

I wonder if the way it is adjusted is based on any type of "law" for passing distance , vs what we feel is a safe passing distance ... similar to the so-called distance you're supposed to keep between you and the car in front of you when driving but most people don't follow.. ? Not saying this is true ..just a thought .
