I'm 6'1" and 240lbs I fit in my CX 5 fine, but I have heard from many people statements like " why don't you buy a real car that fits you?" and " you're a big boy why don't you get a big boy car?" Does the big guys here feel happy with the size of their car or do they think they should go up to a cx 9?

 

If you like the car and you fit in it fine and are comfortable while driving, why worry about what others think?

 

Sounds like “many people” have compensation issues. You need new friends.

Relatively new to the CX-5 (since January of this year), but I'm impressed with the interior space. Fairly roomy, plenty of height, plenty of seat adjustment, and all controls where I expect them to be (within easy reach and in sensible spots).

Of all the car makers out there, generally speaking I've found that Mazda tends to make a fairly roomy interior, for compact cars.

From the Miata to the CX-5, including the 3 Series and 6 Series sedans, I've found there's much more room than one might think. They get the seating position nicely centered, with lots of vertical and forward/rearward travel to the adjustable seat(s). Their roof line designs aren't (at least in those vehicles I listed) so compacted that it gets in the way of people with tall torsos. The Mazda3 is about as tight as it gets, for me, but even the Miata feels like it has more room given how they've shaped the interior around the driver.

 

We JUST purchased a used 2015 CX5 and my wife and I test drive it and took turns driving. I'm 6'1" and she's pretty much bang in 6' with a disproportionate amount of her height in her legs and we both found it really comfortable to sit it. She even sat in the back without moving the from seat and it wasn't "roomy" for her but she could actually sit with her legs straight where normally without moving the seat all the way forward she'd have to stick her knees out to the side.

Just sounds like blokes who feel like they need a large V8 or similar to compensate for their deflated ego's.

Hell this car will be more her car than mine (jealous) except for going on holiday with a caravan on the back - For my business I drive a Suzuki Swift and I actually enjoy a small car for round town city driving so its quite obvious I have nothing to compensate for

 

Thanks for the info. I really do like the the drive and the handling and if fits me fine. I would like more space in the rear maybe like a CR V or Rav 4, but it's not bad and the back seat doesn't get used much anyway. Kid are all grown.

 

I'm 6'2" and the salesman that was showing us cars said don't get a cx-30, get a "big boy" CX-5. So it seems like you got the right model

 

I does fit me and I sure do like the drive. If I had one complaint it would be to make the back seat area 3" more leg room. So the car length wouldn't be 179.1" it would be 182. This then would be perfect. However, it is still great and tell me is there ever the perfect car? I don't think so. However, it is close

Actually, there is a perfect car and it's also made by Mazda.

 

I'm 6'2", 200 pounds and fit fine, very comfortable seats and driving position. Agree with what others said - who cares what other people say. I drove trucks my whole life. Now, as I'm pushing 50 years old, I realize I need a practical car. I drive 90% of the time alone, so I don't need a lot of size. I also am paying for 2 other cars and insurance for my teenaged kids so I have to be very conservative not to go nuts on a car. The CX-5 is perfect for me at this point in my life.
