I finally got a road trip in from LA to Vegas and back and hoped to hit 30 MPG. The tank on the way up and some driving around Las Vegas produced 27.97. The trip back with some local miles on the last quarter tank produced a better 28.72. I was driving between 75-80 for the most part. Looks like i need to slow down or take a longer trip to hit that 30 MPG goal.

BTW - There are lots of Apps out there to track mileage but I'm using an Android app called Fuelio that is easy to use and produces nice reports.

Golferdog - That's a pretty long trip, LA to Vegas, and back.
From what I remember, you really don't want to be driving slower than 75-80 out there. Were you dealing with lots of wind (including headwinds and crosswinds)?

I have a awd automatic CX-5 and that sounds about right from my experience driving at 75-80 mph, about 29-30 mpg for the freeway part of it.

Now that you mention it, it was quite windy on the way out and not noticed on the way back where I had slightly better mileage.

Nothing to do with MPG, but it was during one of those long uphill climbs and the outside temperature hit 108, and the road signs say turn your air conditioning off, that I missed having a temperature gauge.

^ The temp gauges today are not very accurate, they are more like dash decoration.

The CX-5 has blue lights / red lights. Specifically the red light has 2 modes. If it's flashing, it's telling you to take corrective actions (like turning off a/c) because it's running hot, not overheated yet. If it's a solid red light, pull over immediatly, it's overheated.

I'm driving mostly city in a FWD Automatic Grand Touring. I'm getting 27.9 and it's been climbing. Overall I am extremely happy! Only used about 1/4 tank of gas (maybe less) and have gone 116 miles.

I have the same (FWD-GT) - I just hit 10,000 miles - avg. 30.7 mpg with a pretty even mix of driving and AC on most of the time lately
Very pleased with the car!

Believe me...it's bugging me that I have put that many miles on it already!
The good news - it's been great with no issues and still smells new!
