Default 2024 CX5 paint chipping

6 month old with 7K miles CX-5, Machine Gray Metallic.$600 option for the color that looks great but is getting lots of tiny paint chips in the front of hood and along sides of body much faster than I would expect. No freeway or gravel roads. Is it just me too protective of the new baby or is this paint an issue with others?

Mazda is not the only auto manufacture that the platform and model design tends to get chipped from road debris more so than many remember from previous years. It NOT unusual or Mazda only nor is it the paint or the color of the paint. I am sure if you search you will find numerous information from owners claiming this. Yet anyone with 12 bucks can buy a device that can measure the thickness of the paint. Nor is it the composition of the paint. (there are a few exceptions and those were decades ago, and some were taken care of under warranty or recall from the auto manufacture)
The best thing you can do before it gets to bad is clear bra.

Everything I said if you contact higher end Auto Paint and shops will tell you the same thing. Not so sure about the craigs list so called body shop unlicensed business? lol
Or you can wait and I know we have a few members on this forum as well other Mazda forums that will claim differently to support your worry!

Even no driving on a *Freeway or highway if there is a vehcle on a tarmac road ahead of you I guarantee there is material being flung up in the air. Then using common sense, your vehcle speed and that small debris impact effect.
* How did you get 7k miles without going on either?

Not going to argue about it, but if you want to prevent further damage, try having PPF installed. My 21's paint (same color as yours) looks fantastic after 28k miles...

This hands down the best advise... And you should get it down before you get more chips.
In the end it is cheaper then getting your front bumper repainted.

Make sure you find an installer that has a CERTIFICATION in installing it. there are a lot of poser's out there that can really do a bad job.

The Problem is Water Borne Paint, much more Fragile than Solvent Based.

Do you just go from thread to thread guessing and making this stuff up? LOL

Please contact your local paint and body shop or better yet the local body paint and supply service and tell them your thoughts and they will explain to you why this is not the case at least the years of Mazda specific platform and in this thread.

Well known fact that water based cellulose paint is less resilient than original. My 2019 has far too many bonnet chips; I recall
there was a service bulletin issued on the same colour I have for production up to 2018, but didn't stretch to May 2019, or
I'd have got a free bonnet respray.

Water-based vehicle paints were rolled out in the late 1990's and European countries adopted them early on.
Nearly every manufacturer has been using water-based paint since the 2000's.
I would point out that automotive water-based paint still has 10% or so solvent materials in it and is used for the base coat.
The primers, sealers and clear coats still remain solvent based.

For me, the real issue with the CX-5 is windscreen chips, I have very minimal paint dings.
Mine had a new windshield replaced the year I bought it, and I've had 4 chip repairs since.
One just last week but they use a great deal of sand (which is really gravel and some actual rocks in most cases) on the roads here in the winter along with various types of ice meting chemicals.

You are mistaken about the how well the current paint durability is. Current will say for the sake of argument 2017 to present. Please try not to include ancient history we all are aware the problems from the 1980's and 1990's . We all know how the EPA regulated paint change from auto manufactures and if you really have a bitch then stop voting for stronger EPA regulations. It's not the fault of the auto manufactures. If you think about are supposed to stop all production until there is a formula that both meets the EPA and is durable. Be smart if you feel the need to answer this one.
You are reading possibly on this and other forums misguided or less informed or not fact-based information about specific color paints
I have not seen but then I did not research it any TSB or service bulletin as you worded it on any specific color at least in a reasonable production time period.
Many of us not only Mazda platform because of the aerodynamic design and body panels have had to re-paint the from bumper. My Mazda is MICA so all the chips look like part of the paint in subdued lighting. LOL
We get all year Mazda's in the shop, and I look at all of them since this BS about Soul Red came up and did not see any color or year Mazda that stood out having more front chipping than any other?

As for your claiming and or actually getting a FREE repaint of your HOOD (bonnet in other countries) that was more or less a Dealership offering it and not Mazda paying the dealership for it. Post your service order and I can show you the coding that shows that.
