I have a 2019 CX5 that I bought new in Sept 2019. Just today the yellow "wrench" light came on. My mileage is about 1250 miles. I asked the dealer about it and they said that I should change my oil every 4 months or 6000 miles, whichever comes first. I think the maintenance schedule says every 6 months or 6000 miles.

I'm thinking of resetting the wrench light to be early March (3 more months) so that it comes on closer to 6 months from when I bought the car. What do you think?

Also, is there anything else I should check? Can the wrench light come on for another reason?

By the way, initially I thought the "wrench" looked like a "key".

6mth or 6,000 miles is what I believe Mazda recommends.

 

Just over a thousand miles? Yeah, I'd just reset the reminder for the additional months.

 

Six months or six thousand miles??? Really? The Owner's Manual for our 2016 Mazda3 calls for an oil change every 12 months or 10,000 miles. Did later versions of the SkyActiv-G engine go backwards regarding maintenance?

Regular conditions or severe conditions call for different intervals.

 

In this era of synthetic oil, there really is no such a thing as "Severe Service".

 

My 2017 manual still makes that distinction, irrespective of oil type.

 

Standard legalese, send used oil out for analysis and you'll be singing a different tune.

 

US cars are set for a flexible schedule which is essentially up to 12 months or 7500 miles, The actual time/miles is determined in part by the type of driving you do. Hopefully, the dealer did not reset the schedule to a fixed time/milage to get more business. By the way, the 12 month time on a new car is based on the date of manufacture not the date of purchase.
