Default 2019 CX5 GT AWD after Cyl Deact Recall

Hello. I want to mention here that my CX5 has gained improved performance after the completion of the Cylinder Deactivation recall. Last Friday, I drove through IL, MO, OK, TX, NM, and AZ. I have driven this route back and forth 5 times with this CX5. I have seen the improvement. On I-44 and I-40, I set my Adaptive Cruise Control 5 over the limit on Manual Mode. I do it on manual because I don’t want the engine revving high on inclines when it tries to maintain the set speed. On long inclines that used to cause a drop of 5 mph, now, it only drops 2 mph (on mile marker 165 on I-44 in MO)! On steeper inclines that used to cause a drop of 10 mph or more that I have to manually force to shift to 5th, even to 4th gear, now, it only drops 5 mph - I still force to shift to 5th gear to maintain the set speed.

Can anyone here confirm that added performance after the recall? Or was my 2019 CX-5 GT AWD really bad at first and the PCM re-programming fixed my issue???

Just curious. But I’m happy with the improved umpphhh.

Maybe they just disabled the cylinder deactivation...
How has your gas mileage changed? Better or worse?

I saw about a 2 MPG drop with mixed driving after the recall was completed. I used to get 27 MPG, now it is 25 MPG. Have noticed a very small change in performance though. So maybe yes, they might have disabled the cylinder deactivation altogether or it just kicks in rarely at highway cruising speeds. There is no transparency how this was re-programmed, so I assume we will never know. But if people start complaining about drop in MPG in greater numbers, then I see a class action lawsuit on the horizon.

I did see a slight decrease in mpg on highway driving. Going West through Illinois, MO, OK, TX, NM and AZ, my average was 29+ before CD recall. 28+ after the recall was completed. I really don’t mind the decrease in mpg. I appreciate the increase in power. I’m really impressed coming back from my trip West, I didn’t have to down shift that much because of the increased power.

I really think that Mazda just disabled the CD completely. Waiting for a green light at an intersection, when I step on the gas pedal, there is a sudden response from the 2.5 Skyactiv non-turbo. Before the recall, there is always that annoying lag in response.
