Here's what I've done so far. I am adding foot well led lighting which draw prox .6 amps. For it's power source, it is made to tap into an accessory cigarette socket curcuit which is hot all of the time. I wanted to change the power source to the ignition switch so that I can't accidentally leave them on. I found an adjacent circuit that is not critical (fog lights) with a 15A fuse that is ignition switched. I installed a fuse tap at the location of the fog lights with a 15 amp fuse replacing the original fuse on the tap (no change in amperage rating for the fog lights) and a 7.5 amp fuse on the new circuit to power the draw side. With the fuse tap in place I have the load side of the fuse tap in conjunction with the side of the fuse tap opposite the pigtail/feed side of the new circuit. I then took the fuse tap pigtail on the draw side and ran it to the draw side ONLY of the fuse terminal for the cigarette lighter. The idea was to take the draw side of the pigtail and jump it to the draw side only of the original fuse for the cigarette lighter socket. I was trying to avoid having to rewire the cigarette receptacle but rather use the existing draw wire already in place to transfer switched power to the cigarette receptacle. Once I completed my mod, power still remains hot all of the time to the cigarette recepticle....which is right back to where I started. I may not be articulating my self well. I have limited electrical knowledge and would very much appreciate your thoughts/help.

 

Are you sure fog lights are ignition switched? If you leave lights on and turn off ignition, do they go off immediately?

 

I apologize. Afer double checking the fuses with a test light, I did find that the fog light circuit is always hot....ignition on or off. There is a switch in the cabin to turn the fog light on and off. I prefer to leave that switch to always on. What is confusing to me is that the fog lights immediately turn on and off with the ignition. There is no delay. My fog light switch in the cabin is in the on position when I check operation above. I have a number of other cold circuits that have fuses in them that are cold when the ignition is off but they remain cold when the ignition is on so it doesn't appear I have other choices for an ignition switched circuit. At least I know that my wiring logic did work. Other things are in my owners manual there is a footnote for the fog light fuse location starting "*some models".
I hope I've answered your question and this gives us more to go on. For the record I have 2 fuse boxes.....1 outside under the hood and 1 inside on the left side of the cabin. The one under the hood is the one that has the circuits I've been referring to.
