17" wheel on 2019 CX-5 GTR?

Has anyone installed 17" wheels on a 2019 CX-5 GTR? I want to be able to put some 17" snow tires on my wife's new GTR, but I haven't been able to determine whether a 17" wheel will fit over the brakes.

Have a look at your spare tyre and see what size that is, might be 17".

I had not thought about that and I did check. It is a space saver tire sized 145/90x16. So super narrow and tall and probably not enough wheel barrel to be a valid test. But thanks for the idea.

If a 16" rim fits, then that guarantees a 17" rim will also fit. Look for a cheap set of factory 17" Mazda alloys for sale. They will have similar or exact offset as well.

I am also curious about this. I reached out to my local dealer to see if they knew whether 17s would fit with the larger brakes on the CX-5 GTR, and they did not think that they would.

I don't know if that's true if the 16" is the spare. Generally those won't have to cover the brake caliper completely right?

I have relied on TireRack in the past to tell me what will work. They do say that 17" wheels will work on the CX-5 GTR. They don't list any 16".

Are the brakes the same on all CX-5s? If so, I would be comfortable assuming a 17" will work on the GTR if it is standard on the lower trims.

The front brakes on the Reserve and Signature are slightly larger.

From Mazda's site: https://www.mazdausa.com/vehicles/cx-5/specs

Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim
Brakes 4-wheel disc, diagonal hydraulic
- Front 11.7-inch vented disc
- Rear 11.9-inch solid disc

Reserve and Signature trim
Brakes 4-wheel disc, diagonal hydraulic

- Rear 11.9-inch solid disc

That could explain why TireRack says you can downsize to 16 on the sport but only to 17 on the GTR.

Good catch, I think I'll trust TireRack and if they don't fit then I'll return them.

When I had a 2007 RAV 4 V6 I bought steel wheels 1" smaller size than factory and put All Terrain tires on them for winter use. All Terrain tires look like winter tires but last a lot longer and do almost as well. I drive lot in the desert southwest, mostly on dry pavement, so need that extra wear.

Now when I buy my new 2019 CX 5 I'll do the same.
