Steering and engine

This site is pretty cool as I was checking it out. I have an 1989 B2200, pretty good truck, some rust under as the snow in Michigan is severe! Anyhow, i had been feeling the steering pretty tough, and today I noticed that one of the steering bars was almost touching the ground as its 2 attachment bolds broke, it looks like there was a rubber stopper in between too. I was wondering if you guys know If I can just buy the bolts or if I have to buy the entire bar. I think itd be a job I can do, I just need to lift the tires.
Also, it leaks quite some oil adn Id like to change the gaskets, but have heard that taking the engine appart can be a challenge. It drips oil a lot on the front side of the engine, so I have to check often and add. The manual transmission is OK but it feels like if it had lost transmission fluid. Last time I took it they told me the oil was black and weird, so it got changed, but it did not last that long. I see also some leaking in the rear axle hub. Dont be scared, looks like the truck has many problems, but its really a great vehicle, just keeps going, thus Id like to give it some care. Thanks for the help!

RE: Steering and engine

I also would like the air to work but apparently the truck used the R12 phased out gas. I wonder if I can just put R134 on it? I dont know if the compressor works, but I think that it does, I believe that when there is no gas, the compressor shuts down as a protective measure. Just wondering if someone had some experience with this. Thanks.

RE: Steering and engine

R-12 is still legal to use in the U.S., and still available. I still use it in my '88 B2200 in Arizona. Find a real AC shop. Right, when refrigerant is low, the compressor will not engage, to save the system from getting worse wear.
