Oil Pressure Gauge

I have a 1999 B2500 and 2 years ago I notice when it was below 25F, the oil pressure gauge would sometimes fail to go to normal for about 10-60 seconds after starting. I started changing my own oil/filter and the problem went away. However, I did notice it last month, once, on a day that was 8F, it took about 1 minute for the gauge to go to normal. Solutions?

RE: Oil Pressure Gauge

Switch to an oil that has a higher winter rating, for example if you're running 5w-30 switch to a 10w-30. That is the problem with minimum wage oil change places, they often won't replace the filter, then later it get's clogged causing the bypass to open up and then you start eating into you're bearings.

How many miles are on the truck and what oil are you using? I only use Valvoline or Mobile, sometimes I might use Castrol if it's the only thing around (although I'm also pretty certain Supertech is re-labeled Mobile but I'm too cheap to send some to a lab for comparison.)

RE: Oil Pressure Gauge

I used Castrol 5w-10 synthetic oil AND a micron filter (the best). I change it every 3 mos regardless of miles...usually its only about 2500 miles or so.
