Default Fixing A Friend's B2200

Currently I am going through a friends 1989 B2200 Cab Plus Auto Trans truck, fixing all of the immediate issues. So far I have:

1) Installed a new Redline 32/36 Weber
2) New "U" shaped coolant bypass hose
3) New Timing Belt, Idler, & Tensioner
4) New Water Pump
5) New Temp Sender
6) Major oil, grease, & grime clean-up
7) Fabricated Block-Off Plate for Original Exhaust PAIR tubes
8) Cut & Sealed off PAIR ports on Stock Exhaust Manifold

Still need to:

1) Install New Steering Idler Arm
2) Install a New Valve Cover Gasket & Grommets
3) Install New Anti-Freeze
4) Reset the "Check Engine Lamp"

Going to get the last few things done today! I will probably still need to do some more little things to it also, but it will now be road worthy again.......of course, it will miss me whispering in it's ear and "find" another reason to come see me again! They all do.......

Here are a couple of pics of it.....

Looks like someone has been into this engine before......it may have had the dreaded "wallered out crankshaft snout" and it was "fixed" in some way......if he keeps the truck, and I think he will, I will be rebuilding the engine for him and it will start with a new crankshaft & HB bolt!

If I do rebuild it, I will immortalize it here of course!

I tried to remove the small broken 10mm HB bolt, but it is in there pretty good.......I didn't think it was worth a major amount of work since this engine will probably be rebuilt soon enough, and I will correct that issue then.

These Idler & Tensioner bearings were worn out and making noise, lots of noise! It looked like it had a Mazda water pump on it also......but I put a new Gates pump in it along with a Gates Timing Belt Kit.

That engine looks like a metaphor for the U.S. right now, ABE. That would make you the guy who's coming in in a couple of days to try to fix it all. Good thing that "other guy" lost.

Enjoy the rebuild!

The engine compartment cleaned up pretty good.....I installed the new steering Idler Arm but after looking at the tie rods and the ball joints, he will probably need to replace those as well. It still has a "pop" in the steering while turning at slower speeds.....I will look into that soon I guess.

That auto trans fan blade was nearly black when I started cleaning everything up!

I just bought another 5 1/8" air cleaner adapter and a 10" open element chrome air cleaner for the new Weber carb......if he wants to have me install that......much easier maintenance with this setup, as opposed to washing, drying (without compressed air) and re-oiling the regular rectangle Weber air cleaner!

I'm jelly of the power steering.

Yes, if you ever have one of these trucks with the power steering, you will definitely miss it on a B-truck without it! My 1989 red regular cab truck with PS is a breeze to park in tight parking lots.
So, my friend will spend the cash to replace his rock hard, and mutilated window run channel in this truck......and it just so happens I have brand new ones in my garage currently. I will order some more now, to replace my stash!

Played with it a little on Sunday......Saturday was a wash out here in Florida......plenty of rain!
I installed the Redline adapter on the top of the Weber in order to be able to use a standard 5 1/8" air cleaner so I can just install a normal paper open-element air filter. If you use the standard Weber air filter, it really takes about 2 hours to clean and re-oil their air filter correctly......and nobody wants to commit to the time, so the air filter gets real dirty between extended cleanings!
Plus, I think this looks better!

Nice. You could use 14mm x 1.5mm wheel lug nuts (capped lug nuts) to seal the exhaust fittings where you currently have a crimped off tube.
