Can you switch a '86 B2000 engine over to a '89 B2200?

The local Mazda dealership 'thinks' that you can swap a '86 B2000 engine into a '89 B2200 truck and transission....

Anyone know about this or done it before?

Looks like the motor mounts and exaust are the same but wondering about any other issues ie the trasmission.

Cheers,

Geoff

Got the job done... Took the 86 B2000 engine and transmisison out and put it in a 89 B2200.

Decided to take the tranny too as the bell housings are different on the two versions and although they are meant to fit it looked like there would be alot of potential for dirt/grime to get inside throught the bottom. Too bad you can't take off the front grill area body easily as pulling the engine/tranny as one would of been way easier!

Weird when the dealership "thinks so" instead of "knows"...

Indeed. Sometimes I wonder about the 'dealership' lads... well the mechanics are usually great but trying to talk to one of them is always more difficult than the parts dude.

Another example as I have beentrying to get a new speedo cable... the parts guys says it comes in two parts but on both my 86 and 89 it looks like a one peice cable.. so just going to have to take one in to show them and see if I can get another...

Talking to the 'pick apart' guys seems to be a good alternative as they really know their stuff.

Hi, I'm thinking of doing the same, but do you know if a lot needs to be done with the wiring harness? Switches from injection to carburetor ..

Yes, a little more involved if the donor engine was fuel injected, but should be-doable. The receiving truck would need an aftermarket Weber carb, as the stock carb on it was controlled by ITS ECU. And that's all its ECU was for. Some other stuff will need to have stuff from the carbureted engine bolted on, like the coil, distributor, intake manifold, etc.

Thanks for the reply, maybe it's better to take the motor and wiring harness completely and put over?

No. Installing an EFI B2200 engine would be tougher; ECU, harness, etc.
