b2200 engine interchange?

I have a 1988 B2200 Cab plus that I bought with a bad engine, These engines are pretty scarce here so my question is Will another mazda engine such as a 626 2.2 work? And if so how much trouble is it to swap to this engine? All input will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Another engine from an 86-93 B2200 or B2000 will bolt right in.

The shortblock from the 12 valve Mazda 626, MX-6, and Ford Probe in the years between about 88-91 should also bolt right in.

The 12 valve head does bolt on as well but there are lots of clearance issues with the engine compartment which would require lots of fabrication to use it unless you find a J-Spec Fuel injection manifold from the newer trucks overseas.

Not sure how well the B2600i would swap. To make it easy you would have to put the B2600i tranmission bell housing on the B2200 tranny. If you swap the whole B2600i tranny you will have to swap the whole drivetrain. You will also have to install the computer, sensors, fuel injection system, replace your fuel lines, tank, and pump for the fuel injection setup. I'm not sure if the engine mounts are the same but if not that should be relatively easy to modify to work.

Well what I have is an Engine from a 1989 Mazda B2600i 4x4. And Another 93 Mazda B2600i 2whl Drive.

Instead of taking the old one out to rebuiild it. Could I just use to 89 Engine? Head an everything? Or safer to rebuild the 93 Engine? Because I saw how warped the head was last night I could get 4 or 5 sheets of paper in between some of the gaps. I know a friend that can plain them for me.

If your just going for a stock build I don't think it really matters which you rebuild, if you where trubocharging it I would say rebuild the 93.

ALWAYS have an overhead cam design cylinder head straightened before having it shaved. If you dont' the cam towers and caps will not line up and you'll have a lot of friction that will eat up the camshaft and gall the bearing surfaces on the head which means it might last a year before having to yank the head and replacing it.

Besides if the head is that baddly warped it may not be fixable unless it is straightened first anyways. But after it is straightend it will probably only need to have .005" shaved off instead of .020" or more.

Um... Head is gone. I looked at the cam after you said that. It was oggered out pretty bad. So im gonna keep the head as a back up if i ever need it. but i didnt check the block for warp. Can the block warp? Because I have another engine. but It would be alot easier if i can just put another head on instead of a complete engine pull and transplant.

And anyone know where and what i need to ask for to get a complete rebuild for a head?
