Default B2200 engine info?

Hi
I recently bought a 1987 B2200 and had a head gasket problem (didn’t see the signs when buying it my mistake) and im nearly ready to put a new head in. The old one was shot so I found a used one from a 1989 B2200. The problem is, in my haynes manual, they say that the B2200 didn’t have a head with hydraulic lifters until 1988. My 1987 had one. They say that prior to 1988 it was a mechanical one. So im trying to find out if its the original head or not. If its not, that means that the gasket blew sometime in the past, wich mean that maybe my block is shot. Anybody with good knowledge of the model can shed some light on the matter? Is it possible that the factory head in 1987 was a hydraulic one?

thanks! I look forward to get into the b-series community!

B2000 2.0 L came with mechanical rockers. B2200 2.2 L came with hydraulic rockers. There was a crossover year when both the B2000 and B2200 were available for purchase. That year was 1987. The heads are basically the same and the camshaft and rocker shaft assemblies can be swapped from one to the other. If you have a B2200, it came with hydraulic rockers.

Yes, the B2000 had mechanical lifters and the B2200 had hydraulic lifters. 1987 year had both available, maybe until the B2000 trucks were all gone.
