truck is new to me, 1986 b2000 lx 5 speed, i am going through fixing the needed things with the truck, im sort of at a loss, i dont have any working brake lights, or clutch safety switch, as well as the dome light in the cab, ive checked the brake switch by pressing it manually and nothing happens, checked the bulbs, checked the fuse by the column, the clutch switch i havent really looked into yet, and ive checked the dome light bulb and it seems like its ok and not blown. where should i start for these repairs, im mechanically inclined so doing the work myself is no problem i just need some help and alittle direction.

 

Get wiring diagrams. Get a digital multimeter or a decent DC test light; the multimeter will come in handy in more future repairs though. That's where to start.
I'm not positive that the 1986 had a clutch safety switch, as older vehicles like my 1970 and 1971 VWs have none.
