1998 Mazda B4000 SE 4-door
 

Hi all,

I'm new to both this forum and car work.

I have recently purchased a 1998 B4000 that had some steering column issues. I'm sure it was last run in 2014 and has been sitting outside for about 6 years. I'm unsure of exactly what was wrong, but was told it had to do with the steering column, and that the engine and tranny were fine, so I reinstalled the steering column and attempted to turn the engine over.

I did not find any diagrams in the Haynes manual, nor online. I'm not sure where everything goes, but I am pretty confident I got everything correct, minus one or two connections.

I am hoping somebody with more knowledge can help me understand exactly what is going on here. I believe that the previous owner had some frustrations or carelessness and damaged a connector. Does anybody know where the blue wires should connect? Does anybody know where the gray connector should connect? I think they should connect to each other, but I'm unsure. I'm also curious if anybody can tell what exactly they are supposed to control.

This is where the blue wires originate, they look to be aftermarket, spliced into the passenger compartment.

This is the end of the blue wires, and the mystery gray connector that I do not have a place for under the steering column.

Those wires look aftermarket to me, like for a kill switch, alarm, etc.

Realize that the 1994-on Mazda trucks in USA are identical to Ford Ranger trucks, look into that.

That's what I think too, however, the two wires leading to a factory connector (gray) make me think they are supposed to connect with the blue (aftermarket looking ones).

I've been scouring the 'net looking for Ranger wiring information too. Thanks for the reply!

I've still not found exactly what the gray connector under the steering column is supposed to be for. Any other thoughts out there?

It could just be a pigtail for some optional equipment that is not on your truck, but the dash wiring harness still has the connector for whenever that particular optional equipment was installed at the factory.
