Fixed it, when I was trying to use a LED light to pull the code my elbow bumper the battery cable clamp and it rotated on the post, it was worn so I replaced it, thats when the LED light would no longer flash but the check engine light on the dash remained on. Turns out in order to shut the light off if there are no codes you unplug the wire from the light and plug it into another plug right next to it. Good to go.
