water temp gauge random readings

I have a mazda familia BG hatch. Have recently noticed that at random times (be it idling or cruising) the water temp gauge will increase above the normal temp (just under half way). The car doesn't overheat, but it gets close to it (3/4 of the way to HOT). When this does happen I turn the engine off and back on again and it goes back to half way... It this a faulty gauge or sensor perhaps? or could it be a faulty thermostat? Radiator is fine with sufficient anti freeze and no cracks in the radiator or piping that I have seen/haven't seen...

How long you leave it off before you turn it back on? If the gauge is till in the "normal" range its still ok. It does sound like you have a sending unit/gauge issue or a wiring issue, what year is your car? What engine do you have? If you could please fill out your signature (look at mine for an example) so we all know exactly what your driving, saves us time and posts on asking the same thing all the time ;) Welcome to the forums!!

Dear Alexsmith342

I think you have a bad temperture sencer if the temperture goes up and engine isn't too hot.

It's located right near the termostate assembly harnest on most mazdas.

Good luck friend
