Startign Problems

Hi,
I recently bougt a 93 626, not long after i had it the car stalled and wont start anymore...
The problem that i seem to be haveing is that there is no power going to my spark plugs so it wont start...
Checked the fuses everything is ok, and just changed rotor and rotor cap today and still no power going through...
HELP!?!?!?!

RE: Startign Problems

Does the car have a tach on the cluster? The reason I ask is because if it does then you can know if the igniter is working in the distributor. While cranking see if the tach jumps slightly, if it does then there is a possibility of an ignition coil. If it does not jump, I would bet it is the igniter in the distributor. I would think with most probability it is the igniter. This is a common failure with most Japanese cars I have worked on.

yah it does sound like the coil is junk in the distrubutor but yeah watch your tach when cranking it

Ok.. I took apart my distributor and tested the coil... its A ok! The tach doesnot move at all... so i must be the ignitor right??

Sounds like the igniter is out. The igniter is what triggers the ign. coil and gives a tach signal. Looking at the tach is a trick to see what is happening.

Timing spec is 12 deg BTDC at idle. You must first connect a jumper between the TEN and GRN terminals on the diagnostic connector which is located on the left side of the engine compartment near the strut tower. Make sure all other accessories are off.

Its not the 10 terminal, If you lift the cover on the diagnostic connector as stated above, you will see a diagram of what the terminals mean. There will be a terminal labeled "TEN" not the numerals 10. When doing this it will put the PCM into a mode so you can properly set the timing.
