Default Speaker install in a 323?

Ok is there any trick into installing speakers into a 1990 323 mazda. I have a VW but my friend is wanting me to install them for her and says it is a 1990 Mazda Hatchback, I assume it is a 323. Before i go to do this i want to make sure it is not an enormous pain in the ars. Is there a write-up for it that anyone would like to share.

I have used the search and came up empty handed.

Thanks a bunch guys

Default RE: Speaker install in a 323?

I put some speakers in my 1990 323 hatchback about 10 years ago. It was a bit of a pain in the ****, actually. The stock speakers have a very "shallow" (low-profile) magnet, and almost all of the aftermarket speakers I looked at had a thicker magnet, which meant they stuck out too far and couldn't be used. Also, the hole pattern in the speaker mounts is pretty funky, an odd 3-hole pattern. (Take a look, you'll see what I mean.) I finally found a set of Pioneer speakers that fit properly. Actually installing them wasn't TOO hard, but simply finding them was.
