Shifter locked in Park

Hello. I have a 1997 626 automatic. Today the Seat Belt light indicating the seat belts are not fastened, the speedometer, and the Hot/Cold guage stopped functioning. With that I was unable to shift from Park to Reverse or Drive. I had to use the ignition key in the shift lock to release the shifter to Reverse or Drive. What could be my problem? I am not mechanically inclined and would like to know how much this problem would cost to fix. Thank you for helping me.

Check fuses, Meter 15 amp & Stop 20 amp, driver's side kick panel. Should be marked on inside of cover, also owner's manual.
