sO WE WERE DRIVUNG DOWN THE ROAD AND IT STARTED SLOWING DOWN, PUSHED GAS,DIDNT REV UP OR SPPED UP, GEARED DOWN PULLED OVER... NOW THE ENGINE TRYS TO TURN BUT NEVER STARTS.. ANY TIPS ON WHAT THIS COULD BE... NOT OUT OF GAS I KNOW. BEFORE IT SEEMED LIKE THE RPM WAS RUNNING A LITTLE HIGH THOUGH IT THAT MATTERS. IM HOPING ITS NOT THE IGNITON MODULE B/C THEY ARE PRICEY .. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN

 

could be a fuel pump, could be a coil pack, could be a lot of things. do you have any more info?
the smart money would be on either the fuel pump or the fuel regulator.

 

sorry...um not really, i mean it cranked but nver started i didnt check the plugs or anything bc its darkout side. the check engine light came on before it diedand has been on and off the last few days.. Cars sounded pretty loud and sickly for a week or so...sluggish....
checked it an hour or so later just to see if it would srat..cranked still but never started....
I hope that makes a little since...

 

sounds like it could be an ignition issue. did it hesitate a lot before it died? just kind of jump when you would accelerate? what year and engine size do you have?

 

You don"t say what kind of car (year/make/model/trim/engine/trans, etc) you have?
It sounded loud before dying? And the CEL came on?
Well, like Wes said, it could be so many things, though not likely the spark plugs. But I will say that my wife"s Saturn started to act up and sound louder when thecatalytic converter was clogging up. I"m not saying that"s necessarily the problem in your case, but it is another possiblilty.
Did you notice if the temperaturegauge climbed from normal at all?

 

Oh yeah, its an 88 mazda 323 manual transmission, sedan i dont know what kind of engine..ive been told it could be the ignition module ,I was hoping it was somthing simpler like distributor cap or plug wire lol.. Do you know if i can get one of those at a junk yard or do i have to buy it new? The only other exsiting problems,besides the loud sluggishness, before this was the termostat and a brakeline problem. Im pretty sure that wont make the car not start though.....I just dont have alot of money right now and this is our only car. so thanks for your input

 

Pull the center wire off the distributor cap. Find a very brave person wearing heavy gloves hold the end of the wire 1/2" near a metal engine part while you briefly crank the engine. A very nice spark should appear. If there's a spark your igniter module is good, which I suspect it is. Try replacing the rotor and cap.
